2005 Recap:
Due to his busy movie career, AKIRA was not a regular for All Japan in 2005. When he did wrestle on the cards, he tended to stay towards the beginning of the card wrestling in tag matches. Even though he was not on every tour, he was still protected fairly well and enjoyed a fair amount of success.

2007 New Japan Recap:
After being away from New Japan for many years, AKIRA returned in September to join the new Legend-gun faction with other veterans. While he is not a contracted wrestler, he frequently tags with his faction mates against the other factions in New Japan. He has not had any major matches however and is not considered a threat to any of the titles.

2008 Recap:
To the shock of many, on February 17th AKIRA teamed with Liger to win the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Championship from Minoru and Prince Devitt, AKIRA's first title in over 16 years. They would have one successful defense against NO LIMIT before losing the titles back to Minoru and Prince Devitt in July. AKIRA wrestled in the Best of the Super Jr. Tournament but only picked up a pinfall victory over Koji Kanemoto, coming in next to last in his bracket. For much of the summer and fall, when AKIRA was on the event he generally stayed in the mid-card and if Legend-gun lost the match AKIRA was frequently the one defeated. AKIRA did not take part in the G1 Tag League.

2009 Recap:
While officially still a member of Legend, AKIRA was not on as many tours in 2009 as he was in 2008. For much of the year, AKIRA teamed with Liger in the mid-card and he did not have any title challenges. He did participate in the Best of the Super Jr. Tournament and even though he had a big win over Tiger Mask he failed to reach the Semi Finals. AKIRA participated in the Super J Cup, but lost to Dragon Gate's YAMATO in the first round.
